Temperature Range:
- Agarwood naturally grows well in tropical climates with temperatures between 22°C to 36°C.
- Short periods of temperatures up to 38–40°C are tolerable if trees are healthy and well-watered.
What to Watch Out For at 36°C:
- Young seedlings (especially under 1 year old) can get stressed at consistently high temperatures without shade.
- Soil moisture is critical — high heat will cause faster drying, so regular watering and mulching around the base are very important.
- Partial shade or shade nets (50–60% shading) for young trees help prevent heat stress during the hottest parts of the day.
Long-Term:
- Once mature (3–5 years old), Aquilaria trees are quite resilient to hot conditions if the roots have established deeply.
- In fact, moderate heat stress can sometimes help trigger natural resin production — the start of agarwood formation.
