Chemical Induction | WoodWorthy™ Inoculant | WoodWorthy™ Formulation | WoodWorthy™ Development | WoodWorthy™ Profile
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the formulation of a Magnesium Chloride (MgCl₂) inoculant designed to induce agarwood resin formation in Aquilaria spp.
SOP: MgCl₂ – Based Agarwood Inoculant
Product Name (suggested): BarIno™ WoodWorthy™
Tagline: “Induce. Enhance. Harvest.”
Purpose: To prepare a safe, farmer-friendly MgCl₂-based abiotic stress inoculant for resin induction in Aquilaria trees.
1. Materials Needed
Material | Specification |
---|---|
Magnesium Chloride (MgCl₂·6H₂O) | Laboratory or food grade (≥98% purity) |
Distilled or sterile water | Neutral pH (6.5–7.5) |
Brown sugar (optional) | Organic or refined, finely powdered |
Mixing container | Plastic or glass (non-metallic) |
Stirring rod or mixer | Clean, non-reactive |
Measuring equipment | Digital scale, graduated cylinder |
PPE | Gloves, goggles, mask |
2. Formulation Procedure
Standard Formula:
- 5% w/v MgCl₂ solution
- 2% w/v brown sugar (optional for microbial co-inoculants)
Preparation Steps:
- Weigh Ingredients:
- MgCl₂·6H₂O: 50 g per 1 L of water
- Brown sugar (optional): 20 g per 1 L of water
- Dissolve Solutes:
- Pour ~900 mL distilled water into the mixing container.
- Gradually add MgCl₂ while stirring until fully dissolved.
- If using, add brown sugar and mix until solution is clear.
- Adjust Volume:
- Add sterile water to bring the total volume to 1 liter.
- Mix Well:
- Ensure the solution is homogenous. Use gentle agitation if sediment appears.
3. Storage & Shelf Life
Parameter | Specification |
---|---|
Shelf life (w/o sugar) | 3–5 days in cool, dark conditions |
Shelf life (with sugar) | 24–48 hours refrigerated (due to contamination risk) |
Container type | Amber glass or HDPE plastic bottle |
Labeling | Include date, concentration, batch number |
4. Field Application Guidelines
Parameter | Value |
---|---|
Target trees | Aquilaria malaccensis, ≥ 4–5 years old |
Application method | Borehole injection |
Hole specs | 6–8 mm diameter, 5–7 cm depth |
Dosage per hole | 3–5 mL |
Hole spacing | 10–15 cm vertical intervals around trunk |
Injection frequency | Single application or biannual (for mild induction) |
5. Safety & Handling
- Wear gloves, goggles, and mask during formulation and application.
- Avoid inhalation of dust or direct skin contact with concentrated MgCl₂.
- Use sterile tools to prevent contamination if sugar is added.
- Dispose of leftover solution according to local waste disposal regulations.
