Tenurial Instruments Awarded to People’s Organizations
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) grants Tenurial Instruments to People’s Organizations (POs) to promote sustainable forest management while providing livelihood opportunities to local communities. These agreements secure land tenure and encourage reforestation, conservation, and agroforestry initiatives.
Types of Tenurial Instruments
1️⃣ Socialized Industrial Forest Management Agreement (SIFMA)
- Land Size: 1 to 499 hectares
- Eligible for: Individuals, cooperatives, and small-scale enterprises
- Purpose: Allows private investment in tree farming & agroforestry for commercial and environmental benefits.
2️⃣ Integrated Forest Management Agreement (IFMA)
- Land Size: 500 to 40,000 hectares
- Eligible for: Corporations, partnerships, or cooperative ventures
- Purpose: Large-scale reforestation, forest conservation, and sustainable agroforestry projects with long-term commercial potential.
3️⃣ Community-Based Forest Management Agreement (CBFMA)
- Eligible for: Forest residents & indigenous communities
- Purpose: Empowers local communities by granting them rights to manage, protect, and utilize forest lands for sustainable livelihood activities such as agroforestry, ecotourism, and non-timber forest products.
