Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for formulating and applying a Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂) Inoculant for agarwood induction in Aquilaria spp.

SOP: Hydrogen Peroxide – Based Agarwood Inoculant

Product Name: BarIno™ OxiWound™
Tagline: “Burn. Bleed. Bloom.”
Purpose: Induce oxidative stress to promote agarwood resin formation.

1. Materials Required

ItemSpecification
Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂)Food/medical-grade (3%–10% solution)
Distilled WaterTo dilute concentrate (if needed)
Brown Sugar (optional)1–2% w/v (microbial support if co-inoculated)
Measuring CylinderFor liquid volume measurement
Plastic BeakerFor mixing
Protective GearGloves, safety glasses, mask
Storage BottleAmber HDPE bottle with label

2. Inoculant Formulation

Target Working Concentration: 5% w/v H₂O₂ Solution

If using 10% stock H₂O₂:

  • Mix 500 mL of 10% H₂O₂ with 500 mL distilled water

If using 30% stock H₂O₂ (laboratory grade):

  • Mix 167 mL of 30% H₂O₂ with 833 mL distilled water

(Optional: Add 20 g brown sugar per liter to promote microbial colonization)

Do not mix hydrogen peroxide with acidic solutions (like vinegar or citric acid) as this may release toxic vapors or degrade the H₂O₂.

3. Packaging and Storage

ParameterDetails
ContainerDark HDPE or amber glass bottle
Label InfoProduct name, concentration, date, warnings
Storage LifeUp to 10 days refrigerated; 3–5 days room temp
Keep Away FromHeat, light, and organic materials

4. Field Application Protocol

StepDescription
1Select healthy, ≥4-year-old Aquilaria trees
2Drill boreholes: 6–8 mm diameter, 5–7 cm deep
3Space holes vertically every 10–15 cm
4Inject 3–5 mL of 5% H₂O₂ per hole
5Watch for bubbling (oxidation reaction = active tissue)
6Optionally insert soaked cotton or wick for slow release
7Seal holes if desired (optional, with parafilm or wax)

5. Safety Precautions

  • Wear gloves, goggles, and a mask while handling H₂O₂
  • Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing
  • Store away from heat, light, and metal containers
  • Do not mix with acids, flammables, or unknown chemicals
  • Use only in well-ventilated areas or outdoors
